Italy - 2025-06-18 Lipizzaner

It's Lipizzaner Stud Farm Day!!!

It started with a car rental and driving to the Slovenian border. JR drove while I dutifully got all our papers together and we entered the crossing, got detoured to a parking lot and spit out in Slovenia; no papers necessary. Well, that was easy!

We got a tour of the farm with a wonderful docent and saw these cute foals only a few weeks old!

Oh, if you're not into horses, feel free to skip ahead to the next post. I've been a horse girl all my life and this was another one of those 'holy shit' moments. Again, can't thank JR enough for going with this giddy horse gal to something he probably wouldn't have done if alone.

I did miss my sistah Janience a lot on this one, as I wanted to geek out - which I did, but in my head.

The stud farm is precisely that. It exists to make new Lipizzaner's and keep the blood lines clean.  There are only a handful and it's not good to breed the same lineage for obvious reasons.

It also exists as a history of the breed and education of just how amazing these creatures are. There is an opportunity to ride, but they had sold out. There is also a school of riding and watching these riders with the horses was unforgettable. JR took the time to see if he could sketch a constantly moving object; not something he normally does.

There's a church onsite

Stables - old and new. The horses are moved around depending on whether it's breeding time, riding time, both or daily activity. They all experience the old and new stables.

A culinary museum

And FINALLY

I could have stayed all day and watched them practice.

I could also watch JR draw all day as well

We also got to see the museum which was super cool and then we had permission to walk the farm for as long as we wanted.

Baby we were born to run....

After a wonderful lunch, we said goodby to our four legged friends.

JR drove and I again prepared all the paperwork for our reentry into Italy. As we slowed down and got close to the border, this time there were a half dozen men dressed in various uniforms and momentarily, I got nervous.  However, as soon as we got close, they all waved and wished us good day - no paperwork necessary!
