Italy - 2025-06-16 Trieste

Today we said goodbye to our home in Florence for the last 9 weeks and took the Train to Trieste. Trieste lives at the inlet called, Bay of Trieste and is about 2km from the Slovenia border (more on that later). Embiggen to be able to see Trieste. Trieste has been ruled by many different countries and the architecture and flavor of the city reflects that.

The train from Florence - Venice - Trieste is an easy trip and the scenery was lovely. We rented a lovely 1 bedroom w/ kitchenette - and washer! - and that was perfect for the 1 week stay. It was a couple of blocks from the main streets and about a 7 minute walk to the train station. First on the agenda, of course, was food. Trieste has a lovely main canal that leads to the Bay and we slipped in here to get a slice.

The Bay is great and the weather was about 20 degrees less than Florence and had a pleasant breeze. It was great to not be covered in sweat.  There's lovely statues and ancient buildings - natch! - and it had some great museums and interesting areas to explore.

Trieste is also the home of James Joyce!

Classic Doors

As we've seen with other cities, Trieste also has a monument to Domestic Violence.

Also interesting signage

The Bay is beautiful as is the surrounding terrain.

This view from the walkway on the waterfront shows how the architecture is different here; more 'European' rather than Italian.

It's a really cool city and I would spend lots of time here given the opportunity.
