We try not to eat in the touristy places, but we were starving and so we went to what turned out to be an upscale restaurant in Piazza Signorina. To quote Julia Roberts - "Mistake, big Mistake". Not only was it pretentious and horribly expensive, but they sat the Americans next to where the horse drawn carriages sit to wait for fares. The entirety of the outdoor seating was available, but, no, let them smell horse poop while they eat. Needless to say, we hoofed it out of there (see what I did there) and found some pizza.
We also found a restaurant we would like to try as who could resist this -
We called them Eva Gayboar. Yes, we are easily amused. You know that though and it's part of why you come for our content.
We had bought a 1 year family pass to the Uffizi - which also gets you front-of-the-line privileges, not only there but at Bobili Gardens and the Pitti Palace. We knew we would go multiple times to some of these places and it was cheaper than paying the daily rates. So today, we went to officially get the magic card. After a little misdirection, we obtained our cards and made our way to the front of the line, where they let you pass the line to let you in. It feels both decadent and wrong at the same time! This particular day, the Uffizi was PACKED. I mean asses to elbows. They are also performing reconstruction so the entry is farther away from the 'normal' door and they direct you upstairs to the third floor, so you have no choice as to where to begin your journey. Not only are there endless stairs, but it was just so many people. The third floor had so many people that there were lines to get in to the various rooms which held The Venus and other renaissance classics. We decided that since we could come back, we would do so at a later date and we walked the perimeter of the third floor (Uffizi is a 'u' shaped building) and made our way down to floor 2 where there were a ton fewer people, and we browsed our way back around the perimeter to the first floor which had even fewer people. (More about this later)
We did pause to see a Gentileschi and a Rubens. Fuck the patriarchy indeed.
