Italy - Siena and the Abby(normal) 2025-05-13

The morning dawned and Anne provided us with a very tasty breakfast to start our day. The first stop was Abbaza di San Galgano. The place has two sights of interest the monastery including the enormous church without a roof, the Hermitage of Monte Siepi where, the legend tells us that San Galgano retired around 1170 to live as a hermit. As a symbol of peace he embedded his sword in a stone, which can still be seen today. The monastery church also hosts public art and had a great exhibit.

Inside the entry they had an art display centered around peace made by students in the area.  Embiggen to read the text. The children really are our future.

Inside the monastery ruins:

I bought some soaps but most importantly, a bottle of Liquoriza made by the Monks. This is very concentrated licorice liquor and I have been drinking it - along with Sambuca - as my 'digestivo' this trip. To have consumed this product was a great gift.

Ever the fabulous hosts, J/A took us to one of their favorite restaurants in the area (first image on this page). It rained while we were there and after, this very beautiful rose was embracing the nourishment of the rain in this very beautiful landscape.

The food was stellar and the company even more amazing.

Desserts were beautiful and absolutely a delight for the senses.
