Today we took the train to Arezzo. They have a market the first Sunday of the month and the preceding Saturday. We met Jack and Ahliana at the train station. It was our intent to stay a few days in this very lovely VRBO with an incredible yard and then go back to Florence for 2 days and then meet Jack and Ahliana in Assisi to attend Calendimaggio. Well, they weren't selling tickets online so Jack and JR decided to take the train down to get tickets in person. Please see the next post to read about their adventures.
Meanwhile, Ahliana and I explored the city. Arezzo is delightful and I would go back anytime for numerous visits. We went up to Parco al Prato where there were Greek food trucks, numerous opportunities for sitting and enjoying the park as well as stunning views of Tuscany.

Arezzo (old city)
I do love me some doors.
One of the portals - sadly not manned by any magical beings - into Arezzo. There's a whole story about the Chimera of Arezzo; it's also just a cool sculpture. We've seen versions of it in Firenze and other cities we've visited.
I read a book series (Sandman Slim - thanks Terry!) where the 'hero' - ok, the wise cracking, self deprecating magician with a teeny-tiny death wish - drinks AquaRegia which is, as you might have guessed, a whiskey from Hell. He also smokes "Maledictions" which are Hell's cigarettes. Every time I see an Aquavitae sign, I'm reminded of this series and can't not laugh to myself for at least a half a bock.
