Italy - Time for Women Artists to Shine 2025-06-05

We had been seeing signs all over town for a few exhibits by women artists and decided to check them out at Palazzo Strozzi.  In the spirit of being open and experiencing new things, we went and were not disappointed.

To learn more about the sculpture in the courtyard, click to embiggen the sign. Absolutely stunning.

To check out a filmed interview with Tracey Emin, embiggen and scan the QR.

This painting of hers was incredible and if you click to embiggen, you can see it's not just paint, but line work and shading that is actually fabric mesh.

The next exhibit was called Time for Women! Empowering Visions in 20 years of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women. Very interesting. Lots of amazing work, but these two caught my eye.

One of the places one should absolutely visit when in Florence is the Cinema Teatro Odeon. A converted theatre that is now a bookstore and coffee shop BUT does still show movies.

Today's Movie:

For lunch, we tried a restaurant we had been wanting to try for a while -Osteria del Porcellino on Via Val di Lamona.

It's family owned and operated and maybe seats 25 people inside with another 12 or so outside.  What drew us in was the boar statue at the entrance that had an LGBTQ+ bowtie. The staff is super friendly, food sublime and the patrons are more local than tourist. They serve an amazing Zuccotto, a dome-shaped cake with a sponge cake and creamy filling, which is the 'dessert of Florence'. I'm sorry we only got to eat here once.

That evening, there was a concert in the park that would could see - and hear - from our balcony. GLORIOUS!
