2026-05-01 The Revolution Will Not Be Televised - May Day Edition

In many countries - a handful of American cities like NYC as well - May 1st is celebrated as International Workers' Day, often featuring parades and marches. Portugal is no different. From the vantage point of our balcony, we were able to witness democracy in action.

Signs ranged from Fight to Win, to Value Nurses to No More Cheap Labor. There were a plethora of signs we couldn't read because they either were flapping in the wind or poles/signs on the street obscured them, but there was no mistaking the vibe.

At the beginning, we couldn't see the end of the parade; yet it continued for almost an hour, with chants and slogans from each group. The parade finished at Avenida dos Aliados with speeches and songs.
